The skin stapler controls
Keyboard and Mouse

The Skin Stapler defaults to a classic WASD plus mouse layout that suits its third-person, PSX-style camera work. Movement, interaction, and inventory actions stay grouped near the left hand, so you can spend more time reading the room and less time hunting for keys in Carrion City. The game runs on Microsoft Windows 10 as a single-player experience, and every binding below can be changed from the pause menu.
Movement and camera
- W / A / S / D: move Dick Slater through crime scenes and hallways.
- Mouse motion: look around and turn the camera.
- Left Shift: run while held.
- Space: context action for prompts that are not the main interact.
Interaction and tools
- E: interact with doors, notes, and environmental prompts.
- Left Mouse Button: use held items or confirm the active context action.
- Right Mouse Button: inspect evidence, objects, and bodies up close.
- F: toggle a light source when one is equipped.
Inventory and menu
- Tab or I: open inventory and case files.
- M: quick map toggle.
- Esc: pause menu, settings, and rebinding screen.
Keep Interact on E and leave the mouse buttons for use and inspect. Most investigation prompts in Carrion City share the same context cue, so a stable interact key prevents misfires during tense moments.
Gamepad
If you switch to a controller, The Skin Stapler uses a standard Xbox-style layout with twin-stick camera control. Because the game is strictly single-player, the entire pad map belongs to the campaign, and you can freely rebind buttons without worrying about multiplayer profiles.
- Left Stick: move.
- Right Stick: look and camera.
- A: interact or confirm.
- B: cancel or back out of inspection views.
- X: inspect evidence and notes.
- Y: open inventory and case files.
- Left Trigger: focus or aim an inspection.
- Right Trigger: use held items.
- Left / Right Bumpers: cycle inventory slots.
- Start: pause menu.
- View / Select: quick map or journal toggle.
For a closer match to the PSX-era feel, set the right stick sensitivity lower than the default and keep the left stick on standard movement. This makes slow, deliberate camera pans during inspection prompts feel more natural.
Tips and Rebinding
Rebinding is available from the pause menu, and changes apply immediately while the game is running. There are 16 Steam Achievements, and none of them require a specific control scheme, so build the layout around your own habits rather than a competitive preset.
- Put Run on Left Shift unless you prefer a toggle; the default is hold-to-run for precise walking in narrow corridors.
- If you open the inventory often, rebind it from Tab to a side mouse button for quicker access to case files.
- Keep Esc and Pause easy to reach. The Skin Stapler is a horror adventure, and a fast pause beats fumbling for the menu key.
- On gamepad, try swapping Left Trigger and Right Trigger if you find yourself inspecting instead of using held items under pressure.
- Test every new binding on the early office prompts before heading deeper into Carrion City.
The game's system demands are light, which matters if you are playing on a laptop. The minimum requirements ask for a 64-bit copy of Windows 10, a dual-core processor,4 GB RAM, and a GTX 760 or better. The recommended tier bumps the spec to an i5-9600K,16 GB RAM, and a GTX 1070. Both tiers need only 2 GB storage, so input stays responsive even on modest hardware.
Minimum system requirements
- OS: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8GHz or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHz
- Memory: 4 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 or higher
- Storage: 2 GB available space
Recommended system requirements
- OS: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
- Processor: Intel Core i5-9600K 3.70GHz or equivalent
- Memory: 16 GB RAM
- Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 or higher
- Storage: 2 GB available space
If the camera feels stuttery during map or inventory opens on a minimum-spec machine, close background apps before a session. With only 2 GB of storage used by the install, moving the game to an SSD is an easy way to keep menu and rebinding screens snappy.
